Kourosh grew up in Vienna after his parents left Iran during the Iran - Iraq war. He was two years old at the time and had never gone back since. As a child, he used the structure of the Persian rugs that adorned his family´s home to create a road network for his matchbox cars.Studying architecture in Vienna and Los Angeles, he learned his skills from an Iraqi-British architect: Zaha Hadid, who alongside Patrik Schumacher was his professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
When he started collecting antique rugs, he developed an interest in the appearance of carpet motifs reminiscent of the aesthetics of 8-bit gaming systems.
He then started Rugture alongside his job as an architect, after identifying an opportunity to apply the parametric computer software he was using in his practice to create bespoke patterns. He is now based between London and Vienna and sees this project also as an opportunity to reconnect with his Persian roots.

Rugture is the only rug brand that explores the traditions of ancient rug art in an architectural way, using generative design methods, thus pushing the boundaries of rug design. This way of working with parameters and generative design methods is fully implemented in architecture but not yet in the rug industry. It is therefore Rugtures aim to set a new trend.
